Acrylic monotype collage.

Several months before producing this piece, I began toying with the idea of reassembling some of my abstract monotypes into new hybrid pieces. The process is admittedly cathartic — taking my less successful output and tearing it into little pieces isn’t a bad way of facing one’s failures head-on! I got so caught up in the re-assembling/collaging aspects that I began creating new monotypes with this end goal in mind. I came up with a general idea for my palette, created full-page monochromatic prints of the colors I needed (adding in textures and color variances for a bit more visual interest) and then got to cutting out the dragonfly image.
