Description
It’s a rare drive down I-5 here around Portland that I don’t see an osprey vigilantly perched somewhere along the freeway. Seeing them so frequently, I began to get curious about these local raptors, and decided to devote a painting to one. I began this piece shortly after wrapping up Paradox of the Medusas, employing a very similar collage technique involving ink-dyed newsprint, tissue paper, and clippings from a bird-watching guide book. Each feather is individually painted or dyed, then cut and collaged. I applied a final layer of acrylic to embellish smaller details, such as the talons, eyes, beak, and facial coloring, as well as overall shading.
