This piece (and its companion 3 million hearts) served as a bit of a break as I was wrapping up A customary perch. Given the repetitive detail of the feathers in that piece, I wanted a change of pace. And around that same time we were all tossed into a world of uncertainty with the arrival of COVID-19. So I took a brief detour from my usual work to create something a bit more symbolic, adding in a message I’ve been telling myself quite frequently lately.
When working on smaller pieces like this one, I often work on two at a time, bouncing between them as I go. So I think of these two works as siblings.
